Tiivistelmä
Previous research on sexual health suggests that sexual and gender minorities are at greater risk of developing a wide range of sexual problems, such as premature ejaculation and lack of sexual desire. However, population-based studies are sparse and smaller minorities, such as non-binary transgender people and people identifying with sexual orientations other than heterosexual, gay/lesbian, and bisexual have been largely overlooked in previous studies. There is empirical evidence that sexual health varies as a function of sexual orientation and gender. Thus, the present study investigated differences in sexual desire and sexual distress between different sexual and gender identities in a Finnish population-based sample. Additionally, sexual function was compared between different sexual orientation groups within the same gender. The results suggest that the patterns of how sexual orientation correlates with these sexual health measures vary depending on an individual’s gender. Similarly, some sexual health measures, such as sexual desire, were largely predicted by an individual’s gender.
