Tiivistelmä
The majority of second-generation immigrants in Finland are still rather young, but they will begin to enter the labour market in significant numbers during the next ten years. This study identifies factors which influence their labour market performance, explores the possible futures they might have on the labour market in 2020, creates scenarios to describe the development to these futures, and compares these to the findings of earlier studies.
The main method of data gathering was a futures workshop. This was preceded by questionnaires and supplemented by interviews. According to workshop participants, second-generation immigrants in Finland appear to have many factors in their favour on the labour market, and their labour market performance is mainly influenced by factors which influence the opportunities of everyone. These include for example the type of social networks they belong to. The most important problems are caused by anti-immigrant attitudes and the questioning of their being Finnish.
